HotJava Browser is an early, Java-based web browser from the mid-1990s, best known for introducing Java applets to the web. Written entirely in Java, it showcased the promise of “write once, run anywhere” and featured a modular, extensible design that allowed new protocols and content types to be added via pluggable handlers. While slower than native browsers of its era, HotJava was influential in demonstrating dynamic, interactive web content and cross-platform deployment. It supported standard protocols like HTTP and FTP, provided basic HTML rendering, and served as a reference for applet security and sandboxing. Originally known as WebRunner, it remains a notable milestone in web and Java history.

HotJava Browser is developed by Sony Corporation and is used by 1 user of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 2.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0. The names of program executable files are javacpl.exe, SPUBrowser.exe.
